Lately I keep coming back to the gap between having a plan and having a plan you can check. Many learning traders can describe their approach in general terms, but when you ask what would make them abandon an idea before entering, the answer gets vague.
One concept that helps here is the difference between a thesis and an invalidation condition. The thesis is why you think something might happen. The invalidation condition is a specific, observable thing that would tell you the thesis is wrong. For example, using made-up numbers purely for illustration: if your idea depends on a level holding, the invalidation might be a close beyond that level on a set timeframe, decided before you look at the live chart.
Writing both down ahead of time doesn't guarantee good outcomes, but it gives you something concrete to review later, whatever the result.
So my question for the room: what is one invalidation condition you have written down for a recent idea, and was it specific enough that you could tell without debate whether it had been hit?

Before you click buy, what is the one thing you write down about the trade?
