I'm still learning how to read company financials, and the earnings reports look long. There are pages of tables and terms I don't know yet. I'd like to start with a short list instead of trying to understand everything at once.
Someone told me once that people usually look at revenue growth, profit margin, and whether the company made or lost money compared with what analysts expected. I'm not sure those are the right three, or what order to check them in. I also don't know what "guidance" means in this context, or whether it matters more than the quarter's numbers.
For those who have read a few earnings reports, what do you look at first, and what do you skip until later? I'd like to hear how you decide where to start.

What does a beginner check first on a company's earnings report?
