About MetaTrader (MT4)
The Russian software company MetaQuotes Software Corp. created MetaTrader 4, sometimes known as MT4, which is a popular electronic trading platform for retail foreign exchange. Nearly 500 brokers and banks worldwide are currently licensed to use the MT4 software. Since its release in 2005, the MT4 trading software has gained enormous popularity among retail forex traders, mostly due to its user-friendly features and capacity to enable automated trading through the creation of custom trading scripts and trading robots, also referred to as expert advisors. MetaTrader 4 is unquestionably a household name for the majority of online traders and investors, regardless of whether they are trading forex or CFDs (Contracts for Difference) on various financial products.
In addition to being the most widely used online trading platform for accessing international markets, MT4 is also thought to be the most effective software for retail foreign currency trading, meaning it was created specifically for individual online traders. Computer-based software applications known as online (or electronic) trading platforms are used to place trading orders for a range of financial instruments via a network of financial institutions, such as brokerage firms, that function as financial intermediaries, facilitating online transactions between buyers and sellers by carrying out their trades. In addition to trading on live market prices that are streamed by trading platforms, online investors can increase their potential profit margin by utilizing additional trading tools like trading account management, live news feeds, charting packages, and trading robots, also known as expert advisors.
In contrast to modern internet trading platforms that facilitate the trade of many financial assets such bonds, currencies, stocks, futures, and options, the initial iterations of these software platforms were primarily linked to stock exchange trading. Prior to the 1970s, traders were only able to access the international financial markets indirectly through middlemen, with financial transactions between brokers and their counterparties still being handled manually. Additionally, during this time, computerized trading platforms began to be used to complete at least some of these transactions. The earliest of these platforms, referred to as RFQ (request for quote) systems, were primarily utilized for stock exchange, where brokers and clients would make orders that would not be fulfilled right away. Beginning in the 1970s, e-trading systems lacking live streaming prices were progressively superseded by more sophisticated software that offered near-instantaneous order execution, live pricing streaming, and an improved client user interface.
How MT4 Developed
In 1996, the first generation of online foreign exchange (forex) trading platforms appeared, allowing customer markets to grow and foreign exchange to flourish at a significantly faster rate. Thus, individual consumers were able to trade currencies directly from their computers and access the world’s markets thanks to web-based retail foreign exchange. Although the initial generation of these electronic trading platforms consisted of simple computer software that lacked user-friendly interfaces, over time, additional features like technical analysis and charting tools were added, giving these platforms more enhanced features and the ability to be used as web-based platforms and on mobile devices (such as smartphones and tablets) that could be used with automated tools like trading robots.
Online trading platforms brought with them a fast expanding area of the foreign currency market known as retail forex, which featured people having access to global markets and trading online through banks and brokers. Even modest investors were able to trade with smaller quantities thanks to this market segment. Both the necessity for people to trade the international markets directly and the demand for technically more advanced trading platforms, particularly for retail FX trading, remained rising. When the MetaTrader 4 online trading platform was released in 2005, it was the exact kind of software that allowed a large number of retail forex traders to speculate and invest in financial instruments such as currency exchange from almost anywhere in the world.
Usage of MetaTrader (MT4)
With features like automated trading, mobile trading, one-click trading, news feed streaming, built-in custom indicators, the capacity to manage a large number of orders, an amazing number of indicators, and charting tools, the MT4 platform is currently used by over half a million retail traders in their daily trading practices. MT4 is widely considered the best trading software available today, with a wide range of users from novice to experienced traders that possess a diverse range of investment abilities and habits.
MT4 and Automated Trading
Online investors are familiar with automated trading as a useful tool for processing trade orders automatically with very quick reaction times and in accordance with a set of pre-established trading rules (such entries and exits) that traders set up using MetaTrader 4’s MQL programming language. Another fantastic benefit of automated trading, sometimes referred to as system trading, is that it eliminates the emotional component from trading, which frequently has a detrimental impact on investment decisions. Trades are executed mechanically and according to the preferences of traders. As a result, it may manage all of the analytical procedures related to trading as well as trading on behalf of investors.
The MT4 platform’s state-of-the-art technology makes automated trading a fully integrated function, enabling the execution of repetitive trading orders at a speed that would be impossible with manual trading. This helps a lot of investors save time by eliminating the need to constantly monitor the market and execute trades.
Backtesting, or the practice of testing trading methods on previous data, is an additional benefit of automated trading. It allows investors to evaluate the efficacy of various trading ideas by applying trading rules to historical market data. By using appropriate backtesting, traders may quickly assess and improve trading concepts, which they can then incorporate into their own trading procedures for improved outcomes. Even though automated trading is a sophisticated approach to trading, it is nevertheless recommended that novice traders begin with smaller stakes while they are still learning.
Furthermore, trades executed by the automated system may not turn out as planned due to mechanical malfunctions, and many traders with slow internet connections must manually check the trades that automated trading is handling. The optical fiber connectivity based free MT4 VPS (Virtual Private Server) service of XM ensures smooth operations of automated trading and expert advisors at all times by allowing clients to connect to the MT4 VPS and enjoy seamless trading, thereby eliminating any negative factors such as slow internet connectivity, computer failures, or unexpected power cuts.
Automated Trading and MQL
Without a question, one of the most well-liked aspects of MetaTrader 4 is automated trading. The fact that since 2014, orders from automated trading systems have been used in more than 75% of stock share trades in the United States, including those on the NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange, is an impressive statistic in and of itself. It is a big plus that ordinary traders and investors can now trade not just equities but also foreign currency (forex), futures, and options through automated trading on the MT4 platform. Traders can create their own expert advisors (or trading robots), custom indicators, and scripts using MQL4, a proprietary scripting language used by the MT4 platform. They can also utilize the MT4 strategy tester to test and optimize their EAs.
With the many features included in MQL4, traders may analyze both recent and past quotes, monitor price movements using integrated technical indicators, and manage and continuously control their trading orders. The MT4 software offers traders access to over thirty custom technical indicators that can be used on a variety of financial instruments outside of forex. These indicators aid investors in recognizing market trends, price dynamics patterns, and potential entry and exit points. They also assist traders in managing trading signals.
Trading programs with a multitude of features and functionalities are created using the MQL4 programming language. Expert advisers are linked to certain charts and provide online investors with helpful information about possible trades. They may even execute trades on their behalf by sending orders directly to the trading server. In addition to the custom indicators that are already available on the MT4 client terminal, investors have the ability to generate their own using MQL4. Scripts are an additional component of MQL4, however they don’t perform any pre-programmed tasks on traders’ behalf like expert advisers do. Instead, they are made to oversee the single execution of certain trading operations.
Mobile Trading and MT4
Because MetaTrader 4 was created with the needs of 21st-century technology in mind, it offers the highest level of flexibility, with mobility at its center. For this reason, investors can also access the trading platform directly from their smartphones and tablets using the MT4 mobile trading option, in addition to their Windows and Mac operating system-based PCs. It is therefore theoretically feasible to manage and/or monitor several trading accounts and trading portfolios while on the go. Investors have a distinct advantage in trading when they can manage multiple trading accounts from a single interface and from portable devices like smartphones, pocket PCs, and tablet PCs. Additionally, the software’s compatibility with the iOS operating system enables Mac users to trade directly from their iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch and keeps track of market changes around-the-clock.
Online investors may now effortlessly track the world markets from anywhere at any time, place and execute orders instantaneously, and manage their accounts even when they’re not at home using their PCs thanks to MT4 mobile trading. A large range of analytical tools and the graphical display of quotes for appropriate account management are also provided by mobile trading. Online investors can execute their trading activities at the same pace and with the same trading instruments for optimal outcomes, since the MT4 mobile trading alternatives are precisely the same for trading from smartphones and tablets as for trading from table PCs.
